REVIEW: 3-Stars

This side of Murder, by Anna Lee Huber is a read that I have a little difficulty in rating. I rated it 3-stars because I found it to be a decently written story, but one that I kept thinking through most of the story, ‘when is this going to wrap up?’ I will mention that I don’t read a lot of adult fiction, but mainly focus on MG and YA fiction, because that’s what I write. Having said that, this story seemed to slowly move along, with minimal progress. Add to that the unnecessary vocabulary used. Much of the vocabulary did fit right into the time period of the story, 1919, too much of it appeared to only be used to impress the reader. If you’ve got time on your hand and want to read a murder mystery story taking place in the early 1900’s, then this book is something you should try.

The gist of the story is a young widow whose husband has been killed in WWI is invited to a remote island to meet with his fellow officers. She goes in order to learn more about his death after receiving a letter suggesting he was involved in treason during the war, but mystery meets her before she even gets to the island.
