Louisa June and the Nazis in the Waves by L.M. Elliott Is an important read for younger people and anyone who isn’t familiar with the struggles the United States had on the East Coast at the beginning of WWII. It’s a story about the lives of people on the East Coast as they deal with loss and grief. The story tells of the emotional stress they lived with through the fear of not knowing to what extent the Nazis were intent on attacking the United States. People worried although the war about the safety of their families, and yet, there were brave people who kept going out to sea to ensure the needed materials and supplies were getting through, in spite of the Nazi U-boat attacks.
The main character, Louisa June, had to leave most of her childhood behind and step into the adult roll of protecting her family and country, in spite of the loss of family members.
That all said, this story wasn’t’ exactly what I had thought it would be before getting into it. It’s a family story and the story of a young girl; a part of the stories that weren’t told much when it came to WWII and the things that people in the US had to endure.
Finally, at the end of the story is an extensive non-fiction section describing many of the real-life events that inspired the events in the book.
