Stuart Gibbs’ “Spy School Project X” is the tenth book in his long running and successful Spy School series. Although it is with the series, it is a bit different than the others and Gibbs points that out in the back of the book.
In all his previous books within the series, there were arch villains and/or evil organizations that the protagonist, Ben Riply must battle. Project X is different in that it deals more with an attack on Ben in the form of misdirected conspirators theorists after him, along with assassins. It’s a non-stop tale of Ben and his girlfriend, Erica, along with a host of other spy kids trying to stop the hit on Ben and change the theorists’ misunderstanding of Ben.
I got a little tired of the constant, seemingly no-win situation they were in and was looking forward to seeing how the book would end. This book seems to have been written for the younger readers in the spectrum of Spy School fans.
Although not his best, I still recommend this book and know it will entertain for a long time to come. Oh, and be sure to read the complete end material in the back of the book. Gibbs makes a lot of good points. What are those points? You’ll have to read it and see.
