Just finished another enjoyable read by Jacqueline Vick, “Some Like Murder Hot.” It’s actually a combination of her two book series’, the Frankie Chandler, and Harlow Brothers Mysteries. Nice to see all the familiar faces together in one story.
This time, the mystery takes place in the famous Hotel Del Coronado where Frankie and her new husband, Martin Bowers are honeymooning. Edward and Nicolas Harlow are there for other reasons, but they get involved in the “Some Like It Hot” movie convention, as well as the murders. Vick writes her mysteries with a lot of wit and humor to where the reader becomes pulled into the stories and the lives of the protagonists and has a good time while it’s happening. Having visited the hotel and the sights mentioned in the story, Vick did a good job of bringing those together in a realistic manner.
This story has a lot of mystery and will probably keep the reader guessing “who did it” all the way until the end when it is revealed. While all the previous stories seemed to be rated ‘G’, I’d say this might be bumped up to a ‘PG’ because, after all, it is about Frankie and Martin’s honeymoon.
I will say I enjoyed the book, but I’d definitely suggest reading the others first to get a better feel for the dynamics between all the characters, because you’ll definitely see them here in this story.
