Code Name Verity, by Elizabeth Wein brings the reader into the lives of British agents dropped into France in WWII. The two heroins are immediately separated. One tries her best not to be captured by the Nazis, while the other does her best to escape her Gestapo captor. While being a work of fiction, it does put the reader into that time period and into those predicaments. Definitely, a fight for survival on different levels.
The writing style is someone unique to me with much of it being a narrative of what had taken place, along with what was taking place at the time..
The story reaffirms my contention that being a spy in any time period, anywhere would be absolutely incredibly difficult. That being said, I’m glad Elizabeth Wein put this story together for us.
The story grabbed me, a history buff, and I would think it will probably grab you too.
